1997, Western Leisure centre. Saturday afternoon. That was Fung’s spot. In his Vince Carters and Jordan shorts draining mid range jumpers. Nylon.
Mr Chiu. Shaq fan. Cornerstone of KB.
When Fung plays good, KB wins. Fung’s line is always an indication of how a game went.
Case in point:
Swansea II – 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals.
Cougars II – 3 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist.
Coming up against taller forwards every night. Leading KB in rebounding, third in scoring and leading all big men in steals Fung is the consistency that KB needs. The favourite player for those who notice the little things. The fan favourite. Mr Reliable. Example? With so many to choose from examples are easy to come by. How about...
Cougars II. A tough W for KB. Timmy got his praise for his fourth quarter heroics. Wes got his praise for his decisive block in the last 15 seconds of the game. But look real close at the detail.
Cougars got the ball back and took a potentially game winning shot with 4 seconds on the clock. The shot was an airball. The Cougars massive front court was in the paint. Mr Chiu boxes out and comes up with the rebound with 1 second left. Of his 48 rebounds so far this year, that was the biggest. But nobody noticed.
Nobody remembered.
Fung put his shirt on. Gave everyone some dap. Bailed. Ain’t no thing. Game winning basketball is what Fung does.
Fung Sunday.
