So we rock up at Merthyr with 8 players. Kevin asks us if we mind him fielding 13 players. We don’t.
The whole squad is there, Simon, Matt and his bag, both Pullmans. Only person missing is Tim.
Josh, Lloyd, Tim, Wes and Fung started. Lloyd controlled the offense well but KB has a close call when lil Josh goes round his back on a fast break wrong footing Simon. They clashed knees and Josh is hurt pretty bad. He comes out the game and although he was fine by half time, he wasn’t going back in with his trip to Dublin with the Welsh team this coming Saturday. Incidentally it was fun for two minutes watching him BULLY Simon and Dan as they tried to stay in front of him.
So with Josh out we were down to seven. Both teams ran a zone, KB chose to attack the Merthyr D by penetrating. Merthyr shot over the top of our zone (8 triples in the game).
First quarter was close withn all five KB players getting on the score sheet early and Lloydy draining a buzzer beater at the horn. Second quarter went in Merthyrs favour with KB scoring no field goals for the first seven minutes.
The third quarter Greg and lloydy poured in the buckets while KB’s switching to a 3-2 zone slowed down Merthyr. Sadly, the deficit couldn’t be made up in the fourth despite a spirited effort with KB’s best defense of the game. By the end of the game 3 people were on the bench injured - Fung with a turned ankle, Josh with his knee and Greg after taking a forearm to the nose. This meant that the people on the floor were drained from the high tempo offense and the hard nosed D.
Timmy, Mal and Mitch played superb defense in the contest especially on Simon, who Timmy and Mitch forced wherever they wanted.
Breakout game also for Greg who couldn’t be stopped in the paint.
Lloydy takes his final man of the match of the season with an outstanding performance.
Mikey added that he saw the best KB team performance of the season tonight. He said that was the best he has ever seen Lloyd play. Same with Greg.
Although we didn’t get the W we did put in a great performance. Thanks to everyone who left it all out on the floor.
We finish the season at 8-8.

Crick had 5 players.
KB's defense was good as you can see. Little zone, bit of Man and but of full court Man. Modge didn't kick off but it was actually a rounded scoring performance by Crick.
KB was let down by no PG so struggled to get it going. Couldn't really buy one all night as you can see from the percentages.
Timmy coached, in a role I'm sure he enjoyed thoroughly. Time outs were good.
Even though it wasn't a good game - the Scorekeepers were outstanding.

Today KB travelled to Timmy’s high school to take on the Cardiff Hunters.
A full squad travelled leaving only Ross (broken finger) and Fung (personal reasons).
Lloyd, Tim, Dai, Josh and Greg started but with a very slow start to the game (one made field goal in the first five minutes) changes were made. Mikey Holifield drained the clock on the final possession before hitting a triple to give KB a 13-12 lead at the end of the first.
The second quarter was more of the same with KB going scoreless for the first five minutes of the quarter. Mikey hit two shots, with Mal making a shot from the block and Timmy hitting a triple in the last minute of the quarter.
After the team talk at half time the team (Mal, Mikey, Josh, Mitch and Greg) came out to its best quarter of the game. Mikey drained three three pointers, Greg added 8 points for the quarter and Josh scored his only field goal of the game.
Wes joined Mitch and Greg on the baseline and all five contributed on both ends for the fourth quarter. With the game tied with two minutes left Greg got to the basket to take the lead. Hunters scored an easy basket to tie the game with a minute left.
Josh got fouled and went to the line where he hit his first to give KB a one point lead. After some outstanding D from Timmy KB beat the press and Wes was fouled going to the line with 5 seconds left. Wes made the first and purposely missed the second but the clock wasn’t started.
Hunters were fouled with 1 second left down 2. Manny went to the line with an opportunity to tie the game up but missed the second free throw. Game.
Although Timmy played lock down defense at the end of the game, Mikey takes man of the match for his outstanding shooting performance and orchestrating the offense with very few turnovers.
Vic Flemming came to the game tonight to look at Josh with a view to take Josh on at his ABC Gwent academy next year. Several of Vic’s former players have gone on to play in America, Europe and at a high level in the UK. Despite Josh having his worst game for KB so far (we all have them), Vic saw potential in Josh and liked his athleticism and how he absorbed contact. Vic will soon be meeting the Thomas family to discuss Josh’s future.
Although tonight was very frustrating, for all of us I’m sure, two good things happened.
Firstly, we managed to close out a very tight game by playing that last minute with composure.
Secondly, Josh now has an opportunity to do something with his Basketball. To play at a high level, and to learn the game in a way few of us were able to, from one of the best coaches in the country.
If nothing else one of us having that opportunity makes everything else worthwhile.

Those that weren't there will look at the numbers and think this game was a walk over. It wasn't by any means.
Swansea arrived with a deep squad of 10. A massive front court with every player taller than everyone from KB.
KB fielded 6 players. Mikey was at the hospital, Timmy was working, Ross is still out with a broken finger, David has a chest infection, Omar is making a slow recovery and Wes was unavailable.
Swansea took an early lead which they kept until the sixth minute of the first quarter. At that point we took a time out and talked about what we needed to do. After taking back to the court Lloydy, Mal Greg and Fung stepped up the scoring and got to the basket.
Swansea played a loose man and did well to hedge over and play help. Mal was strong and aggressive and Lloydy did well to orchestrate the offense.
KB played a Zone the whole game with Fung and Mal playing excellent help D on the big inside presence. Mitch and Greg stepped up to rebound, Mitch with his best personal rebounding performance to date.
The second quarter was more of the same, Lloyd's penetration and Mal's inside game meant KB took a strong lead at the half.
The third quarter was a sloppy effort from KB for the first 6 minutes. I took the floor to rest Fung and then Mal and we isolated Josh on the right wing. Even though Josh was being defended by young, quick guards Josh got to basket at will. Scoring a lay up, then getting fouled, then scoring two more consecutive lay ups.
At the end of the third with 1 second left Mal got the ball about a foot behind the stripe and nailed a triple as time expired.
The fourth quarter KB continued the offensive onslaught with Mitch scoring 8 points in the quarter, Mal adding another 6 to his tally and Lloyd running the break.
KB set a team goal to hold Swansea to less than 50, and did that by holding them scoreless, save for 2 free throws, in the last 6 minutes of the game.
Overall, KB's team defense was superb. We rotated around and got hands up to shooters. We boxed out and got physical in the post.
KB's offense, although stagnant at times, was the best it's been in years. Points came from all aspects of the downtown offense, from isolations and mismatches.
Three man of the match awards were handed out to Lloyd, who did an exceptional job of organising the team, Mal who was an animal on the offensive end of the floor, and Mitch who recorded what might be his first double double.
Shouts also to Josh, Fung and Greg who were also great in the game.

So, Cougars came down with a decent team. Missing a few people. After a strong and thorough warm up KB went very small to begin the game with Mal anchoring the small unit of Lloyd, Josh, Dai and Mitchell. After KB went on 11-2 run to open the game Cougars call a time out and go big. KB does the same and go to Mal stretching the lead to 20-6. Dai racked up 8 first quarter points. After being given the green light in the pep talk on the journey up, Josh went at his man to score 5 points in the last minute of the quarter.
Second quarter was more of the same with Wes scoring twice in the fifth minute, Mikey putting up 5 and the eighth minute and Fung, Dai, Lloydy and Mitchell also getting on the score sheet. Offense was a little off in this quarter but Weezy did well to control the paint.
This quarter was poor. Josh had 6 of KB’s 10 point in this quarter where he seemingly took his defender off the dribble at will. The offense generally was not the best here. We really can’t afford to have 10 point quarters against the bigger teams.
Fourth quarter was where the game was sealed. Cougars came into the quarter down just 7. In the second minute Dai was fouled while shooting a three and hit all three free throws. This was a massive turning point. Cougars came down and knocked down a three which was instantly answered with a triple from Dai, then a layup, then a triple from Josh. KB dropped 13 points in the first three minutes of the quarter pushing the lead to 17 points.. And that was the closest the game got.
A few things to say, massive shout out to Fung who managed to grab 14 points and 9 points in just 15 minutes.
Shout out to Josh for his second man on the match with an impressive line. He went big with his extended family watching. Big game for the young gunner.
Big game Wednesday at Warriors where we MUST run some offense, we MUST get back on D and we MUST utilise our big men.

We played some excellent basketball tonight, and some horrific basketball.
Think about how many times you were fouled and it wasn't called. How many easy shots we missed. How many times we turned the ball over when we shouldn't have.
That's the least points RCT have score in a game this year.
17 points.

The first quarter of this game was some of the best basketball we have played all year. We should actually have led by 30. Crick unexpectedly started off in a man. KB moved the ball around nicely executing well out of the half court set and played some excellent D. The second quarter was more of the same with KB taking a decent half time lead. Mitch ran the point well and we mixed it up really nicely.
Mal and Greg played big and David racked up the steals with 7 in the half. He had his eyes firmly set on Scott’s record. KB as a team had 2 rebounds in the first quarter. Not because we were beaten on the boards, but we just forced Crick to turn the ball over. David had 3 steals on Cricks first 3 possessions. (13 steals, 11 rebounds as a team in the half).
We opened up the second half in a triangle where Mitch drained 3 jump shots on consecutive possessions. In the first 5 minutes of the half Mal racked up 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.
The fourth quarter was slightly more chaotic. As a team we weren’t in sync and it showed. Lloydy took the floor with a sprained ankle to handle the ball under pressure. Crick brought it back to within six but KB took advantage of the full court pressure by pushing the ball for some easy buckets.
The W gives us 10 points to tie us with Merthyr at the top of the table. The most impressive thing about this game is putting the work in with so few players, after a tough game on Friday.
Mal, Greg and Dai all played in excess of 30 minutes in both games. They still pushed hard to get back on every possession.
Congrats to Mitch who played point for 35 minutes no turnovers. Think about that for a second.. NO TURNOVERS. Impressive performance. Also can’t fault the ice cold jump shots off the triangle. Gave me goosebumps.
Congrats to Greg who was the most physical he has been this year. Great job against a tall, physical team. Great line. You probably also don’t know that Greg was in bed all last week with a virus, and on the piss till 7:30 am this morning.
Shouts out to Lloydy for stepping up and helping out in crunch time (in one Jordan and one kobe). Lloyd pushes even further ahead of Weezy in number of games played now.
Shouts to Timmy for putting in a serious effort having not played for a month (we’ll be working on inbounds in training). Shouts to Mal.. you must be in pain right now – but a decent line. Again a great performance against the biggest team we will face.
Shouts to Dai for the scoring. I know you know you forced some of those shots, so imagine what your %’s woulda been had you only taken shots you like.
Thanks to Dean for helping us out. Thanks to young Josh 2 aka Spielberg.
For the record, Mikey said the first quarter is the best basketball he has ever seen us play.
I’ll try and get a rough vid up tomorrow.
A complete turnaround from our return from Christmas break last year. Let’s keep it moving.

Crazy game tonight. First home victory of 2012.
Started off slow with a close first quarter. In the second quarter Josh and David just cranked up the tempo. David had 13 points in the quarter, heavily assisted by Josh who was so calm on the break he earnt himself his first man of the match honours, as well as a permanent spot on the KB roster.
At 42-27 for the half the game was over. Hunters came back to within 6 but patience and some better free throw shooting meant KB kept their cool and walked away with the win.
My highlights were:
The Hunters numerous time outs including down 15 with 5 seconds left.
Mikeys face when Mike Thomas called a foul on him after the Hunter bounced the ball off his belly.
Mals first dunk – big. KB @ Hooters whenever you are ready. Get that free meal.
Dean on his comeback - “I’ll come back for one game, buy my kit. Then straight after you can hang it from the rafters”
Dean on when players don’t listen – “Make em run laps”
Omars shout when Lloydy hit em with the hook shot “Jabbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar”
Oh and course my eye opener of the season.. Greg - “Who is Hakeem Olajuwon”
Thanks to Young Josh (2) for filming the game – I’ll try and get some videos up.
Thanks to Nas & Omar for doing the table. Omar getting pretty good at it!

Taavi Leetus dropped 33 (6 3 pointers) including 18 in the fourth quarter – imagine what he woulda done had we not gone box and 1? Great defense by Ross during the game earning him his first man of the match honours.
Tough loss to take. Not by any means Mikeys fault, we all had a part to play tonight. We sent the tropics to the line once in the first quarter and five times in the fourth. We also missed six free throws in the fourth.
Props to David for improving his % considerably. I thought we played some great basketball. Especially in the first half.

Game day is always crazy. This one more so than normal.
We knew Mikey was out and with Mitch having proper flu, Lloyd having man flu and Mal having gastric flu it didn’t look good. Then I got the photo:
At the hospital they confirmed OZ has small tendon problems and requires cortisone. I spoke to OZ tonight and he’s fucked, but has a morphine drip.
At the game in the changing room I get the text from weezy that wifey had been taken into hospital and he was out too. And he wasn’t bringing my jersey.
(We all wish Omar & Weezys fam the best)
During the build up, Lloydy promised his boy he was gonna put up a line for him. He didn’t disappoint. LVD stepped on the court looking to win. Doped up on Lemsip he crossed, cut and hopped his way to KB’s first 10 points. In six minutes. Going on to drop 8 in the first quarter.
Swansea put out a strong team for this clash with an experienced “Sweets” and Summi Khan in their back court. Despite this KB took a big 12 point lead by the half off the back of Lloydys huge first quarter, Dave dropping 5 points in one minute in the fourth and Matthew scoring twice in the last minute of the half.
Although he scored sparingly in the second and third Lloyd still took command of the game racking up assists, rebounds and steals. In the fourth quarter, after the Storm had not only clawed the game back but taken a two point lead, he went off.
During a time out with 5 minutes to go the game plan got changed. Lloyd took full advantage going for 6 points and an assist in 90 seconds. KB leads 65 – 61.
With two minutes left the man of the match got fouled out and sat down, willing his team to a victory. Swansea brought the game back to a one point defecit with one minute remaining. Timmy got fouled during the ninth minute and went to the line, missing both. Followed by Mitchell who had an opportunity to extend the one point lead. He also missed both.
With 12.5 seconds remaining KB used its last foul to give taking 3 seconds off the clock. Mitchell played his best D of the season and made a last second attempt by the storm rim out... falling to Mitchell.. giving him his first joint man of the match of the season.
Lloydy was the first to jump from the bench and congratulate his team mates, and no doubt the first to call his hospitalised brother to let him know he handled business for him.
Game days are always stressful. Timmys blown exhaust and the headaches that followed, the travel, the preparation and organisation.. but it’s all made so worthwhile when we take that W.
Thanks to everyone who worked hard despite being ill and to those who gave lifts.

Well done to Lloydy for taking Man of the Match for a hard working performance with Flu and his contact lens problems.
Their shooter had 12, Carl Dolecki had 12.
I thought the defense did well to limit the scorers. Especially in the second half when we closed down their shooters, and still afforded us plenty of rebounding. Consider that this team has scored 90 points in each of it's games so far.
Some individual lessons learnt tonight I think. From my point of view we are getting better but still making the same mistakes that we have talked about for the last few months. Piss dribbling. Not throwing Chest Passes. Not boxing out. Not getting back on D. Hands down on D.
Fouls were much better though :)
Obviously really bad luck to have Lloydy have his contact problems and for Mikey to take that fall on his back. I thought Mal did really well inside after we started going to him, and Dave did well to get the ball down to the block. Weezy obviously worked hard on the boards. I love it when he screams MINE.
Work cut out for us now. That was one we really should have taken, but that's life.
Big one now this coming Friday.
A couple of other things.
Thanks to Mikey for the tripod, Hayley & OZ for doing the table, Dave for the monitor (still feels weird), Fung for giving everyone lifts (all the time).
Me and Dave are hooking up tomorrow to talk T Shirts and other stuff. If you want to get involved hit me up.
Also.. Mal picked a hell of a ball. Lucille was sexual as fuck. I'm gonna keep her in my bedroom.
Who keeps there own score on a bit of paper? Random.
