Love this (Knicks related)

The Heat public relations staff put out a list of negative playoff statistics regarding the Knicks in their standard post-game notes that was refreshing and actually raised eyebrows from reporters used to stats reflecting mostly positive trends. The Knicks factoids were so detailed in its negativity, Stoudemire was listed as shooting under 29 percent in four straight playoff games, Anthony’s career playoff history of shooting under 50 percent in his last seven postseason games was mentioned, and so was the Knicks’ chances of tying the NBA record for most consecutive playoff losses, with a chance to go to 12 tonight and equaling Memphis’ futility — something that had never been reported. The negative list also included the 27 turnovers. tying a postseason franchise high. The Heat’s president is ex-Knicks coach Pat Riley and its PR chief is former Knicks staffer Tim Donovan.

UK ISP's to censor Pirate Bay

For the record.. Downloading doesn't harm new talent. Ask Tyler, The Weeknd, Conor Maynard, Ed Sheeran etc.

The entertainment industry need to realise the old business models don't work any more.

And a simple google will tell you how to unblock or circumvent the censorship :)

File-sharing site The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK internet service providers, the High Court has ruled.
The Swedish website hosts links to download mostly pirated free music and video.
Sky, Everything Everywhere, TalkTalk, O2 and Virgin Media must all prevent their users from accessing the site.
"Sites like The Pirate Bay destroy jobs in the UK and undermine investment in new British artists," the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) said.
A sixth ISP, BT, requested "a few more weeks" to consider their position on blocking the site.
BPI's chief executive Geoff Taylor said: "The High Court has confirmed that The Pirate Bay infringes copyright on a massive scale.
"Its operators line their pockets by commercially exploiting music and other creative works without paying a penny to the people who created them.
"This is wrong - musicians, sound engineers and video editors deserve to be paid for their work just like everyone else."
'Compelling alternatives'

In November 2011, the BPI asked the group of ISPs to voluntarily block access to the site.
The request followed a court order to block Newzbin 2, a site also offering links to download pirated material.
The ISPs said they would not block the site unless a court order was made, as is now the case.
Virgin Media told the BBC it will now comply with the request, but warned such measures are, in the long term, only part of the solution.
"As a responsible ISP, Virgin Media complies with court orders addressed to the company but strongly believes that changing consumer behaviour to tackle copyright infringement also needs compelling legal alternatives, such as our agreement with Spotify, to give consumers access to great content at the right price."
The Pirate Bay was launched in 2003 by a group of friends from Sweden and rapidly became one of the most famous file-sharing sites on the web.
It allows users to search for and access copyrighted content including movies, games and TV shows.
No 'extra pennies'

In April 2009, the Swedish courts found the four founders of the site guilty of helping people circumvent copyright controls.
The ruling was upheld after an appeal in 2010, but the site continues to function.
The Pirate Party UK, a spin-off from the political movement started in Sweden that backs copyright reform, said this latest move will "not put any extra pennies into the pockets of artists".
"Unfortunately, the move to order blocking on The Pirate Bay comes as no surprise," party leader Loz Kaye told the BBC.
"The truth is that we are on a slippery slope towards internet censorship here in the United Kingdom."
'Pointless and dangerous'

Critics of site-blocking argue that such measures are ineffective as they can be circumvented using proxy servers and other techniques.
However, one analyst told the BBC that it was still worthwhile to take court action as it underlines the illegal nature of sites such as The Pirate Bay.
"I know it's fashionable to say 'oh, it just won't work', but we should keep trying," said Mark Little, principal analyst at Ovum.
"We should keep blocking them - they are stealing music illegally.
"The biggest culprits of this, really, are the younger demographic who just haven't been convinced that doing this is somehow morally uncomfortable.
"The principle that downloading music illegally is a bad thing to do has not been reinforced by schools or parents."
But Jim Killock, executive director of the Open Rights Group, called the move "pointless and dangerous".
"It will fuel calls for further, wider and even more drastic calls for internet censorship of many kinds, from pornography to extremism," he said.
"Internet censorship is growing in scope and becoming easier. Yet it never has the effect desired. It simply turns criminals into heroes."

Doing it in the park! Summer 2012

DOIN’ IT IN THE PARK: PICK-UP BASKETBALL, NYC explores the definition, history, culture and social impact of New York’s summer b-ball scene, widely recognized as the worldwide “Mecca” of the sport.

In New York City, pick-up basketball is not just a sport. It is a way of life. There are 700+ outdoor courts, and an estimated 500,000 players, the most loyal of which approach the game as a religion, and the playground as their church.

“You can play high school or college for four years. You can play Pro for a decade. You can play pick-up … for life.”

DOIN’ IT IN THE PARK: PICK-UP BASKETBALL, NYC lovingly uncovers this movement through the voices of playground legends, NBA athletes, and most importantly the common ballplayer who all day looks forward to calling “next” game at their local schoolyard.

Co-directors Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau visited 180 courts throughout NYC’s five boroughs to create their debut documentary. They traveled to a majority of the locations by bicycle, carrying camera equipment and a ball in their backpacks. The film’s title refers as much to the subject matter as it does to the method of filmmaking, providing an unprecedented perspective on urban America’s most popular, and accessible, free recreation.

Lebron auditions for the Clippers

Just when I was beginning to like the guy. I watched the video.

I didn't watch the games live. I woke up to a barrage of texts about it on Sunday morning. Most praising Chandler.

After watching it, I was in disbelief. Was Lebron auditioning for a spot on the Clippers team? Does he want to be throwing lobs to Griffin? His behaviour on Saturday certainly seems to suggest that.

I speak to Mikey every day of my life about basketball. Last year, during the playoffs I put him on a time out. I refused to talk to him about Basketball. This year sadly, I have had to do the same. And Its' Lebron's fault. As most thing's wrong with the world are.

Here's how the conversation went.

Me: I dont think he [Rose] gets protected as much as other NBA players. Like Lebron. His flop at the weekend... just when i was beginning to like him a little bit too.

Mikey: You are so biased. If that happened to Rose you would be like that is terrible. That was 10 times worse than when LeBron did Lucas

Me: yeah. i agree the screen was bad. it was a bad screen. and was a foul. but lebron gets hit.. then reacts to the screen by falling a bit, then a couple seconds later.. does like a spasm thing then starts running around holding his neck. you really think he didnt flop?????? if you dont. you are on a time out.

Mikey: It is not as bad as you are making out.

Me: Have you seen it?

Mikey: yes.

and the Rose injury.

and Shumpert's injury.

and Melo's amazing shooting performance!

and KD's game winner.

and highlights of the 2012 Champs the Spurs

and the Lakers highlights.

Me: Then you are on a time out.

"That is a foul. A hard playoff foul. Tyson Chandler leans in and sets a moving screen into LeBron James‘ back. But apparently LeBron has been spending more time with the players in Liverpool than we thought, because he sells that like a soccer flop."

"After Tyson Chandler gave LeBron James a hard foul on the back (and LeBron flopped like his life depended on it)."

So.. Lebron continues to make a mockery of the game we love, destroying relationships on the way. What's your stance on it? Did he flop? Did Chandler deserve to get ejected for the foul? Or was that all Lebron's fault?

KD youngest ever player to win..

3 consecutive scoring titles.

On this day I think back to when me & Tim had an hour long argument because Tim believed KD was "shit".

I also think back to last year when Wes bet me £150 that the Clippers would go further than OKC.

Your first round playoff schedule

Enough with the condensed schedule and the injuries and the tanking — let’s get it on with some real basketball. Playoff basketball. If you’re not pumped for this, go listen to some Linkin Park and come back. Yea, I didn’t know Linkin park was making new music either, but there you go.

So you can set your electronic calendar to send you text reminders of when the games you want to see are, here is the full schedule for the first round of the NBA playoffs. Every series starts this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday, then the games start to spread out. The playoff schedule is slightly condensed this year for the NBA, again you can thank the lockout for that.

All times are Eastern. An “*” means if necessary.

Just when you thought you loved the lambo

Another day, another lust inducing Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. This time the monstrous roadster is seen here in a one-off edition that was created for one wealthy individual. The white porcelain trimmed Wei Long 2012 edition was created for the Beijing Motor Show going on this week.

Random thoughts and observations

Some random thoughts

Tim looks like a white Tyrone Biggums in that picture

How far away is Merthyr? Seriously. Some of those hills felt like a roller coaster.

Lloydy going between Simons legs at the end of the game.

Big Josh is a legend. But will he shake his BJ name now LJ is no longer with us?

Wes jumping in the car looking like Lou Ferigno with a protein shake and tupperware boxes full of peanuts and fruit.

Josh picking up his only injury of the year in his last game of the season.

We were surprised to see a Dominos in Merthyr, even more surprised to see a pizza being delivered 4 doors away.

If we polled it, i'm sure people would say they would most like to play with...... FUNG.

Lloydy being two boards off a triple double.

Kevin phoning me on the way home to tell me they were training next week.

Are Merthyr the only team to exclusively play a 2-1-2 zone still? And how will that fair in Div 1 if they get promoted?

Our third winning season in three years.. and 27/19 overall.

Kevin fielding 13 players.. and getting all of them minutes.

Lloydy's first quarter buzzer beater where he hot stepped between two people then stroked it. Nylon.

How far has Josh come in his short 5 months with KB?

The whole season recorded. The Hard Drive is sitting in my cupboard between my towels right now (in case of burglars).

Lloydy getting fouled by Simon and Lloydy creasing up laughing, Simon turning round with the face of thunder ready to land one on Lloydy, then realises he just commited a foul .. and starts laughing hysterically himself.

Is Mal the best defending big man in the division? The best defender in the division??

Does Fung need a nickname?? Manimal?

When Timmy takes to the floor as the two ready to drive to the basket.. and airballs a three pointer on his next possession (we love you though Timmy)

I don't get Merthyrs colour scheme.. surely the Tigers should wear Black and Yellow?

Can anybody else believe Greg didn't cram it on that kid when he was in the charge zone and Greg was on the break?

You know you've gone too far when the road signs start saying "The Midlands" instead of "Newport"

So we rock up at Merthyr with 8 players. Kevin asks us if we mind him fielding 13 players. We don’t.

The whole squad is there, Simon, Matt and his bag, both Pullmans. Only person missing is Tim.

Josh, Lloyd, Tim, Wes and Fung started. Lloyd controlled the offense well but KB has a close call when lil Josh goes round his back on a fast break wrong footing Simon. They clashed knees and Josh is hurt pretty bad. He comes out the game and although he was fine by half time, he wasn’t going back in with his trip to Dublin with the Welsh team this coming Saturday. Incidentally it was fun for two minutes watching him BULLY Simon and Dan as they tried to stay in front of him.

So with Josh out we were down to seven. Both teams ran a zone, KB chose to attack the Merthyr D by penetrating. Merthyr shot over the top of our zone (8 triples in the game).

First quarter was close withn all five KB players getting on the score sheet early and Lloydy draining a buzzer beater at the horn. Second quarter went in Merthyrs favour with KB scoring no field goals for the first seven minutes.

The third quarter Greg and lloydy poured in the buckets while KB’s switching to a 3-2 zone slowed down Merthyr. Sadly, the deficit couldn’t be made up in the fourth despite a spirited effort with KB’s best defense of the game. By the end of the game 3 people were on the bench injured - Fung with a turned ankle, Josh with his knee and Greg after taking a forearm to the nose. This meant that the people on the floor were drained from the high tempo offense and the hard nosed D.

Timmy, Mal and Mitch played superb defense in the contest especially on Simon, who Timmy and Mitch forced wherever they wanted.

Breakout game also for Greg who couldn’t be stopped in the paint.

Lloydy takes his final man of the match of the season with an outstanding performance.

Mikey added that he saw the best KB team performance of the season tonight. He said that was the best he has ever seen Lloyd play. Same with Greg.

Although we didn’t get the W we did put in a great performance. Thanks to everyone who left it all out on the floor.

We finish the season at 8-8.

Scoring Title Race

When Kobe Bryant steps on the court Thursday night against the Sacramento Kings, we will know exactly how many points he needs to score to win one of the closest NBA scoring title races ever over Kevin Durant.

Both men say they don’t want it. Both men say all they want is a ring. Both men are also fiery competitive and don’t back down from a challenge. We’ll see if when push comes to shove the next couple days if they can turn that fire down.

As of right now, two-time defending scoring champ Durant is averaging 27.97 points per game to Bryant’s 27.86.

Durant and his Thunder play Wednesday night at home against the Nuggets. The Thunder are locked in at the two seed, the game means nothing to them. The Lakers are locked in to the three seed and Thursday’s game for them is meaningless. The Oklahoman did the math and breaks down who has to score how much to win the title.

But if Durant scores less than 30, Bryant will have to top Durant’s output by at least seven points. If Durant posts more than 30, Bryant must outscore Durant by at least six. The necessary differential would narrow more the more each player scores. The discrepancy is caused by Bryant playing seven fewer games. The scoring title is determined by scoring average.

So if Durant finishes at his average of 28 points, Kobe will have to score 35. On the season, Kobe has averaged 33.5 points per game against the Kings.

The real question is will Kobe go after it? There is no doubt that even if he has to score 40 something he can get it — even if he has to take 40 shots to do it — and if he wants it Mike Brown will leave him in and his teammates will get out of his way.

The question is, will he? Here is what he told ESPNLA.com a few days ago.
“(It’s) not very important,” Bryant said. “San Antonio was playing me single coverage yesterday, if it was important I would have gone for 50 yesterday.”
I have no doubt he means it. But can he turn off that desire to win if he just needs 10 more points midway through the third quarter Thursday?

Metta suspension

UPDATE 10:06 pm: Metta World Peace issued his own statement on his Web site (coincidentally named RonArtest.com):

“I apologize to the Oklahoma City Thunder fans and the OKC organization. I look forward to getting back on the floor with my teammates and competing for the Lakers fans.”

7:59 pm: The NBA came down fairly hard on Metta World Peace — not as hard as some had hoped, but more than fellow Laker Andrew Bynum got for laying out J.J. Barea in the playoffs — with a seven game suspension for his deliberate elbow to the head of James Harden of the Thunder Sunday.
The Lakers have one game left in the regular season (Thursday against the Kings) so this means World Peace will sit the first six Lakers playoff games. That likely means the entire first round and could go into the second round if the Lakers advance.

“The concussion suffered by James Harden demonstrates the danger posed by violent acts of this kind, particularly when they are directed at the head area,” NBA Commissioner David Stern said. “We remain committed to taking necessary measures to protect the safety of NBA players, including the imposition of appropriate penalties for players with a history of on-court altercations.”

“Metta has for the most part been a model citizen both on and off the court since joining the Lakers,” said Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak in a released statement. ”Still, his most recent lapse in judgement is not to be condoned or accepted. His actions could have seriously injured another player, and his absence during this suspension will hurt our team as well. While we accept the league’s decision, we will will be supportive of Metta and try to help him be more professional on the court.”

For comparison, Bynum got five games for his hit on J.J. Barea in the playoffs and Delonte West got 10 games for his weapons charges away from the game. The longest recent suspension was to Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton for bringing weapons into the Wizards locker room.

Harden has not yet been cleared to play following concussion symptoms and is out for the Thunder Tuesday night. However, he is expected to be able to play in the playoffs starting this weekend.

Flop City vol 2

A few things had to happen for the Los Angeles Clippers to be branded with the dreaded “Flop City” nickname:

A Chris Paul trade to the Los Angeles Lakers had to be rescinded, then a new one had to be executed that led to CP3 becoming a Clipper;

The Clippers team Paul was traded to had to have a couple of high-flying athletes who are known for dunking;

Those dunkers had to have been being videotaped when they found out the news about the trade, leaving them to exclaim “Lob city!!!” upon hearing the news;

The team had to become the poster boys for the flopping epidemic that has taken hold during this NBA season;

(optional) A rapper had to make a song called “Rack City” that could be turned in to a meme.

As you can see, it was a very tenuous process for the Clippers to end up as “Flop City.” If any of those steps hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t have this absolutely hilarious nickname to heckle the team with.

And that, my friends, is why Vinny Del Negro thinks the Clippers shouldn’t be called “Flop City.” Because they don’t flop. Really. From the Orange County Register:

“We’re flopping a lot? I wish we would flop a lot. Maybe we’d get some charges,” he said. “I don’t know anybody on our team that flops. It’s all around the league. I wouldn’t say our team is a flopping team at all — maybe one or two guys. If we get the call, I like it.”

Look, I could prove to you that the Clippers flop a lot by showing you video after video after video of various Clippers flopping at the slightest amount of contact or point to various quotes about the Clippers flopping, but I know you’re smarter than that. You know the Clippers flop all the time. I know the Clippers flop all the time. I’m sure Vinny Del Negro knows the Clippers all the time but he can’t admit it because that would be uncouth. No one would admit that about their own team.

Instead of all that, I’ll just let you know that there are 1.7 million Google results for “Clippers Flop City” and another 42 videos on YouTube, just for good measure. I’m not saying the internet is always right, but I think it’s pretty accurate in this case. It’s like they say, 1,700,042 basketball fans can’t be wrong.

Lil Kanye

No more Lob City now Flop city

When Reggie Evans sold a foul like there was a sniper in the grassy knoll at Staples Center (you can see the video above, where a flagrant 2 was rightly reduced to a personal foul) it brought up a discussion of the Clippers and flopping.

As in they do it a lot.

As in people are starting to call them “flop city.”

Well, not if you ask Vinny Del Negro. His team needs to flop more, he thinks. He stood in there and took the charge for his team. Here is the quote, via the Orange County Register.

Um, yes you are flopping a lot. The Clippers may lead the league there.

You can argue that the Clippers and their attacking style means they also take a lot of hard fouls, that’s a legit complaint. Some of that goes uncalled, I’ll give you that as well. But the Clippers flop and complain about calls with the best of them. Or worst, depending on your interpretation. The video evidence litters YouTube. Or look at TrueHoop’s list of the league’s biggest floppers.

Blake Griffin can be quite the actor. Here is my personal favorite, asking for a call after he hits himself in the face.

Chris Paul also has a long history of selling calls — this is a competitive guy who has always needed to do everything possible to get his teams to win. This is older but still a favorite, a compilation via Royce Young of Daily Thunder of all CP3′s flop in one game.

iPhone 5 Rumours

While we were excited about the iPhone 4 S launch, especially because of the improved camera, we are still not convinced an upgrade from the iPhone 4 is absolutely necessary. Sure the 4 S is better, but with the iPhone 5 not too far away, a lot of you are probably waiting.

As usual, when it comes to new Apple products, the rumor mills never stand still. Today we report about 5 features that the next generation iPhone will apparently come with and those sound very promising to us already.

A New Metal Body : apparently the new iPhone 5 will be housed in a liquidmetal (the commercial name for an alloy of titanium, zirconium, nickel, copper, and other metals) body

A Larger Screen: rumors are that the screen could go from 3.5 inches to 4.6 inches, which would be a massive increase. Considering the screen sizes of the latest Android phones, we have no doubt that Apple will increase the screen size. By how much exactly we still have to see.

Less Glass: the new display will feature a new type of glass that will also reduce the depth of the phone by quite a bit

4G LTE: we have seen it on the new iPad, so it should definitely come with the new iPhone

iWallet: your phone comes a credit card

Real tough guy

The explanation:

That is a whole lot of follow through for something unintentional.

That blow above gave James Harden a concussion, according to Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman. Which means to get back on the court he is going to have to be cleared by the league neurologist after passing a battery of tests. That could happen before the playoffs, or maybe not. Concussions are things that heal on their own schedule, one we don’t really understand.

After the game, Metta World Peace (the baller formerly known as Ron Artest) apologized for the elbow. Here is his direct quote.

“On that play, I just dunked on Durant and Ibaka, and I got really emotional, really excited. And it was unfortunate that James had to get hit with the unintentional elbow. I hope he’s OK. The Thunder, they’re playing for a championship this year. So I really hope he’s OK, and I apologize to the Thunder and to James Harden. Such a great game, and it was unfortunate so much emotion was going on at that time.”

Lakers staff stepped in and made sure World Peace did not answer any reporters’ questions.

Caught up in the emotions of the moment or not, that elbow was simply unacceptable — and it was intentional. You cannot watch the video with an unbiased eye and see it any other way.
The question is how many games he is suspended (my guess is five, but more would not be a shock).

Without their third best player — and best shot creator — the Thunder went on to lose 114-106 in double overtime to the Lakers.

Fake tough guys

DeAndre Jordan has his Clippers' teammates back. If anyone gives Blake Griffin an overtly physical foul, except the same on the other end from Jordan.

According to ESPN.com:
The criticism of Griffin and his teammates in the past is they haven't done enough to retaliate after those hard fouls.

"If Blake gets fouled, I can't go punch someone in the nose," Jordan said. "We can't do that but throughout the course of a game, other fouls happen to other players on the opposite team and if they happen to be hard fouls, they happen to be hard fouls. We're going to protect our teammates; it doesn't matter who it is."

Fright Howard flys coach to LA

You thought the Dwight Howard craziness was over? Guess again.

On SportsCenter on Saturday, Stephen A. Smith revealed that according to his sources, Dwight Howard is once again furious with the Magic organization.

The Magic superstar center will ask for a trade again once the season is over. This follows another report recently which claimed that the Magic front office, not Dwight Howard, were in fact responsible for initiating the conversations to have Stan Van Gundy fired.

Here is the quote from Stephen A. Smith on ESPN:

"The minute this season is over, according to what I am hearing from his camp, you can expect Dwight Howard to tell Orlando. 'Get me out of here. I don't want to be here any longer.' You've got Stan Van Gundy annoyed with the organization. You've got Dwight Howard disgusted with the organization. The way he's been treated, along with the way his teammates have been AWOL on him as far as he's concerned. You've got a problem. Not to mention the fact, there's one other little Cliff Note that you might find interesting. When he had his back surgery, they were talking about giving him a flight on AirTran or something like that. This is the kind of stuff that I've been told in the last 24 hours in terms of how they've treated him. He feels as a superstar, he's been treated as a scrub."

People swear by the Nike Huarache Free’s comfort, which has made them pretty popular since their fairly recent introduction. The Nike technology has also made its way into a Basketball version of the sneaker, which also debuted a few months ago. This time around, we show you an all new wolf grey and action green color which has now hit retailers as part of the Spring/Summer 2012 footwear lineup for Nike. These are now available at retailers such as BLENDS.

Blazers curse

The Blazers have an… unfortunate history, when it comes to injuries. (That’s like saying the Titanic had an unfortunate problem with icebergs.) It’s not just Sam Bowie or Greg Oden. It’s Brandon Roy and even rookies and second-year men who have fallen.

Have any sort of negative pattern and the word “curse” starts popping up in sports. We’re a superstitious group, like the people in “The Wicker Man” or gamblers. But surely the players don’t buy into that stuff, right? Well-reasoned, stable people that they are?
Marcus Camby, traded at the deadline to Houston, was asked about the idea of the “Blazers Curse” and his answer was surprisingly honest. From ESPN’s Marc Stein:

Q: You know those of us in the media throw around words like “curse.” But what about the players on that team? In the Blazers’ locker room, are guys asking: What next?

A: They might not want to admit it, but when I was there, my goodness, people were saying, “Are we really snake-bit? Are we really cursed?” Doubts and talks like that came about. Everybody just tried to brush it to one side and remain positive, but it was hard to escape because everybody was talking about it. It’s hard to argue when it keeps happening year after year after year.

via Weekend Dime — Season-ending awards – ESPN.

Portland should have absolutely no problems signing free agents with that kind of press.

Maybe they should perform an exorcism. Or, you know, they could outsource their medical staff for a year.
That’s who I actually feel the worst for in this situation. There’s no indication that how the training staff treated the players had any impact on their injuries. But when you have that many, there are going to be questions. It’s like if you ran a McDonalds and it kept getting hit by a meteor, then re-opening, then wiped away in a flood, then re-opening, then getting hit by a tornado. At some point, people are going to look sideways at the manager even if he didn’t do anything.
